Robben Island Tours

World Heritage Site

Robben Island is an internationally proclaimed UN World Heritage Site and symbol of Freedom and Perseverance of the Human Spirit.

This is the notorious island prison that once held the late South African President and Nobel Peace Prize Winner, Nelson Mandela.  The history of this island dates back to years before Cape Town was established.

If you book other tours with us, we can include your trip to the island in the itinerary.   If you want to book directly with the island, then go to this site:

The ferry departs from the Robben Island Gateway at the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront.  We can provide return transport to the ferry, if required.

The ferry departs every day at 09h00, 11h00 and 13h00 throughout the year.  There is an additional trip at 15h00 in the Summer.

The tour includes a guided bus tour around the island and then a visit into the prison facility with an ex-political prisoner who lived there just after Mr Mandela was moved to another prison.

If you would like to go in a private vehicle when you arrive on the island, you can expect to pay about 7-8 times more than the standard ticket price, but if you can afford it, the experience is well worth it.

If you want to understand South Africa and have an interest in Nelson Mandela’s life, then you should make sure you visit this deeply reflective place.
