South Africa’s stunning Garden Route is one of the world’s best hiking regions. Boasting one of the greenest and mildest ecosystems on the planet, the Garden Route is the perfect South African escape. Leave behind the noise and grime of daily life and find your paradise! Want to hike the Garden Route? Here are some adventure trails to try!

Easy Walks

Forest Buzzard Trail

This trail is a mere 2.2 kilometers, but it has more than its fair share of beauty! Meander through indigenous forest and pine plantations. You’ll even get to see a gorgeous waterfall.

Pied Kingfisher Trail

This quick trek begins at the Ebb & Flow camp at Wilderness. The whole thing is an easy 11.5 kilometers. This trail will take you through the Serpentine Flood Plain, which is an aviary paradise. What birds can you spot?

Woodville Short Walk

This is a perfect little stroll for anyone who wants to experience a bit of nature. You don’t have to go far before you find yourself in a lovely picnic area! This trail is just two kilometers, and it is wheelchair accessible. Everyone will enjoy walking across the bridge and along the tree-lined path.

Challenging Day Hikes

Drupkelders Hiking Trail

Don’t miss Drupkelders, a beautiful nature hike near Knysna. Although this trail is only 3.6 kilometers, it’s not a beginner trail. Be prepared for steep hills! The walk is tough, but the end result is more than worth it. Before you know it, you’ll arrive at the Homtini River! You can take a swim in the pool and check out the cool rock formations around the river.

Kranshoek Hiking Trail

Tough but stunning, this coastal trail promises to take your breath away. Start your nine-kilometre trek at the Kransoek picnic area, then hike your way down into the forest. Follow a waterfall-fed stream to the coast for incredible views! This trail is popular for its many ecosystems, ranging from forests to fynbos to rocky coasts.

Multi-Day Treks

Harkerville Coastal Hiking Trail

This trail is certainly not for the faint of heart! You’ll be hiking through beautiful scenery, yes, but you’ll also have to tackle some crazy challenges, including chains, ladders, and steep cliffs. If you’re up for this adrenaline-pumping two-day hike, you’ll find that it’s as rewarding as it is hard.

Otte Hiking Trail

Plan a good five days for trekking this trail! This hike will take you through 43 kilometers of indigenous forest, fynbos, beach, coves, and picturesque views. Don’t forget your camera! This is an unforgettable experience.

Do any of these trails appeal to you? If you want to make a hiking adventure trip along South Africa’s Garden Route, let us help you plan! We can take to you to the most beautiful nature spots in this lovely region of Africa’s coast.
