The lovely weather of South Africa was made for picnicking!  Escape the confines of indoor living and head out to nature for a lovely lunch with your favorite people.

Whether you want to share a romantic date with your sweetheart, get the kids out of the house, or try something fun with friends, you won’t be disappointed by a picnic at one of Cape Town’s top spots. Wondering where to go?   Check out these great picnic areas!

Winery picnic venues

Whether it’s Durbanville, Stellenbosch, Paarl or Franschhoek, the wine country has DOZENS of venues that offer elaborate picnics during Spring and Summer.

Kirstenbosch Tea Room

Check out this gorgeous picnic spot in Newlands!  You can enjoy a gourmet garden picnic at the Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens with your sweetheart or best friends.  Dine in the shadow of the imposing Table Mountain, under large trees, where the ground is carpeted with sprawling lawns and indigenous flowers.  And when you’re done, take a stroll through the gardens.

The Taal Monument

With breathtaking views across the valley of Paarl and the surrounding wine country, this picnic destination is often overlooked.   There is a Tea Room on site, or you can bring your own cheeses and wine from wineries nearby like Fairview.   Only 45 minutes by car from Cape Town.
